if I followed the streetlight
   far enough would
   I find the woman who stood
   at the bus-stop across
   town last night?

   should some shade of green
   remind me later of the corner
   of 13th and M, would I
   have seen the woman's coat again?

   If I spent a day walking
   backward, would I see myself
   go to sleep and then wake up
   to see a bus backing into the station
   and the woman backing slowly down
   stairs arthriticly?

   So that when I woke up
   and saw a streetlight and a woman
   did I see them again or for the first time?

   The rolling tires do no let me know.
