Rose is Not a Flower

A rose which is a rose is not rose
when it hides with calyx green its bright delight,
to keep it safe through the long dark night.
   Do I speak convincing you?

No? This rose, then - which is a rose -
is not rose; not unless rose be gilded dun,
unless rose be marigold dust from gardens overrun,
unless rose be full familiar with your curls.

This rose, then, which is a tulip -
is not rose; not unless rose be polarbear furs,
unless the cherry blossoms do be deceivers,
and have not that which is the quality of your skin.

This rose which is a violet
is not rose; not unless rose be skies,
unless rose be the color of your eyes:
as rose is a river drenched in the fallen sun.

You are a rose which is not a rose,
and are not colored rose; not unless rose be

   you're blushing.
